Euphoria (2026 film)

Euphoria, directed by Gunasekhar, is a Telugu social drama inspired by the 2022 Jubilee Hills sexual assault case. Starring Bhumika Chawla, Sara Arjun, and Vignesh Gavireddy, the film explores sexual violence, victim-blaming, social privilege, justice, parental responsibility, and rehabilitation.

Sara Arjun plays Chaitra, a survivor who questions why society blames girls for their choices instead of holding perpetrators responsible. Her powerful question about entering a pub challenges patriarchal attitudes and victim-blaming.

The story also follows Vikas and his mother Vindhya. While other parents attempt to protect their sons through influence, Vindhya chooses justice and makes her son face the consequences of his actions. His eventual remorse raises questions about punishment, rehabilitation, and genuine transformation.

A significant moment occurs when Chaitra, now an IAS officer, professionally interviews Vikas. She chooses justice over revenge, showing her strength and agency. The title Euphoria contrasts the temporary pleasure of substance abuse with the deeper fulfilment found through accountability, change, and a new beginning.

Critically, however, the film's focus on Vikas's rehabilitation may overshadow Chaitra's experience as a survivor. Nevertheless, Euphoria remains a thought-provoking film that asks whether justice, responsibility, and rehabilitation can coexist.
